How I Obtained a Master’s Degree Working Full-Time

On this post I share my experience on how I obtained my master’s degree. Lots of people have contacted me asking me about it and mostly how I funded it.

I will quickly explain why I went on to do a master’s degree then go on to explain how I funded it and finally what I think about University.

I decided to go for a master’s, so I can have the opportunity to take on certain professions which otherwise I cannot. Having a degree makes me feel that I am free to choose and not limited by opportunities. Having this mindset and possibility is important as it becomes difficult for people to control you. You are more likely to be controlled and exploited by people when you have limited possibilities and a University degree does not only make you smarter but also put more options on your table.

A Master’s degree done in London is quite expensive, you can check the average tuition fee online. The way I was able to fund my tuition is: I worked full-time. I understand for most people working full-time and studying it’s not compatible. It comes down to what kind of student you are. If you are a student that needs to be in class 90% of the time to succeed, then this strategy is not for you. But if you are like me and you only need the titles of the books you need to study, to gain the knowledge required, then studying and earning at the same time might just be a good strategy for you.

For me University was a means to achieve my long-term goals. I think with the internet information has been commoditized if you want to learn any new skills you can easily go to google search and YouTube and you can become a Pro in virtually anything you want. For example, if you are thinking to go to Uni to learn entrepreneurship you are better off learning from online courses of people who are already doing it.

Finally, when deciding if or not to go to University, think about how it is going to aid your long-term goals and aspirations. If you do not have lot of contacts or networks that can open doors that will allow you to land a job, then a degree could be a reasonable alternative to get to the door of must businesses out there. But if you decided you want to create your own business then self-education is the way to go.
